TNT Tournament, White House VS Springfield Saturday Night

Rivalry Renewed….

Springfield Tops White House 48-44 In Heated Match

Another chapter in the rivalry between Springfield and White House was written Saturday night at the Center in Springfield. If you love physical rivalry games, then you would be foaming at the mouth while watching this game. With both team’s slugging it out with each other, looking like shades of Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. This game was a TNT Tournament classic, with Springfield prevailing in the end with a 48-44 victory over the evenly matched White House Blue Devils.

Going into the game Coach Kenneth Holman of the Springfield Yellow Jackets was expecting Coach Tyler Welch and the White house Blue Devils to “come out hard tonight.” He was absolutely right. From the tip-off to start the game, it was a constant grind. With Kevin James leading the way with 6 points to give White House a 16-12 lead over the Springfield Yellow Jackets at the end of the 1st quarter. The intensity then increased even more! Coming out of the gate of the 2nd quarter, the defensive presence of both teams escalated allowing only a total 14 points to be scored. Aaron Gardener and Kenaz White lead the Yellow Jackets with 8 points each to tie the game at halftime with the Blue Devils 21-21.

The 3rd quarter was the same story just a different quarter. Both teams came out going toe to toe with one another. Neither team really able to pull away from one another. It took a combined effort from Dayron Johnson, Aaron Gardner, Kenaz White and Travion Woodard to carry the Yellow Jackets through a tough quarter to give them a 35-31 over the Kevin James and Jared Ward lead Blue Devils. The excitement of this game would not stop increasing as the Springfield center was rocking with noise from the crowd as we came to the beginning of the 4th quarter.

In all sports, the 4th quarter is the deciding quarter. It is the quarter where a team can achieve the satisfaction of beating their rival. Springfield did just that. Kenaz White and Travion Woodard made two huge 3 pointers to help propel Springfield over White House with a final score of 48-44.

Even though only one team could have won, both teams played well enough to win the game. Every player made a difference tonight. Whether it was scoring baskets and playing defense or cheering for and supporting teammates. Coach Tyler Welch of the White House Blue Devils and Coach Kenneth Holman of the Springfield Yellow Jackets both did excellent jobs preparing and coaching their teams tonight but, Springfield did just enough to win it. Springfield advances on to the next round of the TNT tournament and will play Stewart County next Saturday.
